2000W Inverter ND2K240 "Gubbio"

Big Image

The ND2K240 inverter is a special design which participated in Google's Little Box Challenge. In this competition, the goal was to achieve minimum size device able to handle up to 2000W of output power. Moreover, the input current ripple should not exceed 20%. The output should be pure sine wave with less than 5% distortions. In addition, the efficiency must be better than 95%.

Nadagy's solution does not use pulse-width-modulation which eliminates bulky output inductors. Instead, the output waveform is created as a staircase approximation of a sine wave using up to 36 voltage steps. Without high-frequency switching, the inverter introduces less EMI compared to standard devices.

Superdiode ND16A60

Big Image

Superdiode ND16A60 will conduct up to 16A continuous current with hardly any forward voltage drop. Typical forward voltage drop at 16A current is less than 85mV. Superdiode is designed to operate without a heat-sink. It can sustain an occasional 20A overcurrent. The reverse blocking voltage is 60V. The DO-247 package comes with with 14ga leads.

Nadagy ND16A60 is intended to be used as a bypass diode for stringing solar panels. Solar array will produce more power in partial shading or cloudy conditions if individual panels are bypassed with superdiodes. Superdiodes will also protect shaded string sections from developing hot spots. The ND16A60 can also be used as a reverse-voltage blocking diode with less power loss as compared to the commonly used standard Schottky diodes.

Superdiode ND15A20

Big Image

Superdiode ND15A20 can carry up to 15A. Typical forward voltage drop at 15A current is less than 75mV. It can sustain an occasional 20A overcurrent. The reverse blocking voltage is 20V. This superdiode is integrated with a small printed circuit board with a variety of plated holes for convenient 3/4 inch mounting and hook-up.

Nadagy ND15A20 were used as bypass diodes on the SIUE solar car in the Formula Sun Grand Prix 2013 held at the Circuit of The Americas track in Austin, Texas. The ND15A20 can find various other applications in battery storage systems as efficient current-routing devices. For instance, parallel-connected batteries can be isolated from each other with superdiodes to prevent the system discharge in case one of the batteries fails.

Bipolar Current Limiter

Big Image

K-11 is a laboratory protection device for limiting current in AC or DC circuits. It can be used to neutralize over-current or short-circuit conditions in systems involving standard outlet power or batteries. Contrary to a circuit breaker, K-11 limits the current by inserting extra resistance without opening the circuit. This action is instantaneous so that current in the circuit never overshoots beyond the limit value. The limiting action is identical for positive and negative currents.

K-11 can be used for testing power factor-corrected rectifiers or microinverters. It operates in linear mode (non-switching) without fans which makes it suitable for EM-sensitive installations.

Battery Management System

Big Image

BMS10x20 Battery Management System is designed to protect a 12V lead-acid battery from undesirable conditions of undervoltage and overcurrent.

Battery systems, which are left unattended for a long period of time, should monitor the battery voltage and prevent it from dropping below a minimum value. BMS10x20 cuts-off the loading circuit in such circumstance. The load remains disconnected until the battery charge is replenished. When the voltage recovers above the turn-on threshold, the BMS10x20 automatically reconnects the load.

Nadagy BMS10x20 also monitors the battery current and prevents the overcurrent condition. It is safe to short-circuit or overload the load terminals. In such a case, the battery current still flows, but is limited to a maximum value.

Impulse Integrator

Big Image

L-13 is a laboratory triggering device which can be used in a measurement environment involving trigerring pulses and analog signal processing instrumentation.

Multiple input trigerring pulses are counted and integrated into an analog waveform. The waveform is available at the output and can be fed into a signal conditioning system for interpretation. Every input pulse increases the output waveform level. The number of pulses counted can be programmed as well as the start and stop levels of the output waveform.

This device connects to a laptop/desktop computer through the USB port. A subset of the Forth programming language is used for the user interface.

Signal Conditioner

Big Image

H-11 is a signal conditioning system with 16 independent channels. Each channel is an analog amplifier with adjustable gain, offset, and a low-pass filter. Output functions of the channels can be mixed in groups of four. H-11 unit communicates with the operator via a serial console. A subset of the Forth programming language is used for a user interface. Alternatively, the operator may connect with a standard wireless link.

Signals inside the unit remain analog at all times. Each channel has a differential input with a 5V exciter. Two additional digital lines are also available to operate relays or read a status.
